General

Who is the Bergmann Group?

The Bergmann Group is a midsize company family-run in the 3rd generation with a 75-year tradition. The Bergmann group comprises of: Bergmann Concrete, Bergmann Waste Water Engineering, Bergmann Environmental Engineering, Bergmann Sand & Recycling as well as Bergmann Real Estate.

What does „WSB®“ mean?

WSB® stands for "Wirbel-Schwebebett-Biofilmverfahren" (= fluidized bed biofilm process). It is a pure biofilm process without sludge recirculation in the biological cleaning step.

What are the principal advantages of the WSB® process over
the competition products?

The proved and approved process is now used in over 20.000 plants across Europe. The cleaning performance is based on the high-tech of a creek. Thus the users profit from a carefree, reliable and efficient purification solution. Low capital, maintenance and running costs. At WSB® you don't find any sensitive technology within the plant. Additionally, causative organisms are largely eliminated by the microbiology.

Do the Bergmann plants have a registration number?

Of course! All plants have the approval of the building authorities through the German Institute for Construction Engineering (DIBt). The corresponding registration numbers are:
Z.55 -6-64 | Z.55-6-65 | Z.55-6-66. These get constantly renewed.

Why can WSB®-Plants function with so few tanks?

The size of the tanks is primarily determined by the design ratings of the preclarification. According to a sludge study, which Bergmann Environmental Engineering has carried out together with the Technical University of Dresden, DIBt could be persuaded of the fact that the sludge generation in the WSB® process is far lower than in any of the other processes. This resulted in a modification of the registration that allows us have a small preclarification and thus less tanks.

In our area it is not yet clear whether there will be centralised or decentral sewage system. What solution is on offer by you?

The corresponding information can be obtained from your municipality. Together with the responsible local administration union it draws up so-called local sewerage concepts. In these it gets determined whether a connection to a central waste water treatment plant takes place or whether you will need to erect your own plant.

I have got an old three-chamber-pit, which I want to upgrade to work fully biological. What can be done?

We ask you to complete our upgrade questionnaire for existing domestic treatment plants in detail. We will then send you a free quotation for the upgrade.

Can the carrier material clog up?

No, due to the air injection and the corresponding movement of the particles a self-cleaning effect is obtained. This guarantees that the biofilm always stays thin. It can therefore never clog up.

Does the carrier material have to be exchanged?

No, the material does not have to be changed. The manufacturer gives a 20-year warranty for the carrier material.

How should the plant be sized?

The plants are sized according to the number of residents (RE). Information for the design and sizing examples can be found in DIN 4261 Part 2.

Currently, I need a 4 RE-plant which will have to be upgraded at a later date.
What is to be done?

The simplest solution is to buy the bigger plant (for example, a 8-RE plant only costs € 200 more than a 4-RE plant). This is then adjusted by the service company according to the actual usage after the first maintenance check.

What substances may be passed into a fully biological
domestic waste water treatment plant?

All domestic sewage may be introduced. The following cannot be treated:

  • Rainwater from roofs and courtyards
  • Residues from the keeping of animals (liquid or solid).
  • Chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mineral oils, solvents and other water pollutants that may harm the biological cleaning performance
  • Remnants in form of food residues, plastics and sanitary products, coffee filters, bottle tops and other household articles
  • Milk and milk products

What happens to the plant in times of prolonged standstill (e.g. vacation)?

This is no problem for WSB® plants since the biological cleaning step self-adjusts to that situation. Additionally, we or an authorised partner can adjust the aeration times in your control system to minimise unnecessary aeration and thus save energy.

Does the compressor cause noise disturbance?

No. regardless of whether the compressor is placed in the cellar or outside the building. Through the possibility of purchasing a sound-proofing cabinet no noise disturbance occurs.

Installation

What contributions do I have to make for the installation of the plant?

All civil engineering for the installation has to be carried out by an approved company.

What has to be considered for the transfer of the concrete tanks?

A foundation is not necessary, since the concrete tanks of WSB® clean plants are already fitted with a proven concrete baseplate. The only thing necessary is a cleanliness layer of gravel that is drawn off and compressed.

How is the impermeability for the ring construction guaranteed?

The special mortar for sealing the joints between the rings guarantees the same impermeability as in a monolithic tank if used properly. After the installation and before the final fitting of the equipment, a leak test is required.

Maintenance

Why should Bergmann Waste Water Engineering or an approved partner
carry out the maintenance?

Only these experts guarantee proper maintenance and thus proper functioning of your plant.

What maintenance tasks have to be carried out by the maintenance team?

Cleaning tasks, check of the construction status, function checks of the system engineering, preparation of a maintenance report, sequence check, temperature measurement, check of settelable substances, pH measurement, sample taking for COD and BOD5, smell test, colour check waste water, visibility depth.

How high are the maintenance costs?

The maintenance costs for your plant are available from our technical experts.

Which tank(s) have to be emptied in what rhythm by the disposal company?

In a WSB® clean plant, the only tank that requires periodic emptying is the preclarification tank. The intervals are determined by your local administration union or municipality. Normally WSB® clean plants have to be emptied every 2 years at the earliest.

Consequential Costs

What yearly electricity costs can I expect?

For a 4 RE-plant about € 12 per person and year.

Which parts of a WSB®-plant have to be replaced when?

The advantage of a WSB®-plant is minimal technology with highest effectiveness.
At most twice-yearly the compressor needs a new filter.

Do I have to pay for the exchange of faulty equipment?

Generally, the simplicity of the system ensures that defects are rare. If they happen nonetheless, we exchange the parts free of charge within the warrantee period of the manufacturer.

Sustainability

Is my WSB® clean waste water treatment a sustainable solution?

Of course? Your WSB® clean plant already fulfils future requirements for waste water treatment. Additionally, the process is constantly improved by the engineers of the Bergmann Group.
