Elimination of overall nitrogen is realized with the simultaneously intermittent aeration in the biological clarification stage as well as the preceding de-nitrification. To ensure de-nitrification year-round, an anoxic step is preceding the aerobic biofilm stage. For mild mixing, the protection of the carrier material as well as the mixer, a proprietary technology, the hydrodynamic impulse accelerator eddy® was developed, which is used during this additional cleaning.

Phosphorus is removed from the waste water by precipitation of metallic salts. In order to reduce the danger of back-dissolution of phosphorus in the anaerobe sludge storage, aluminum salts are primarily used. This additional cleaning stage can be used independently of the preceding sewage conditioning performance. Precipitation occurs simultaneously in the biological cleaning stage or subsequently in the feed of the final sedimentation.

Apart from disinfection, the implementation of additional micro-filtration modules causes the self-cleansing of ceramic membranes employed. Through that their maintenance and cleaning efforts are minimized considerably. As a substitute for the final sedimentation, the micro-filtration step may be installed in the final sedimentation tank or in a separate tank. It may be used independently of the preceding biological clarification.
